Todd Rundgren

I saw Todd Rundgren on Saturday at Antone’s with Sam, Kirby and Liz. I think the last time I went to a club for live music was in 2004 – Rufus Wainwright at La Zona Rosa.

Most of the audience looked to be in their mid to late 50s. Which makes sense, given the timeframe of Rundgren’s career. Still, it felt odd being one of the “young” people there.

Aside from a few of his old songs and a couple of covers, Todd played songs from his new album Arena. As in arena rock – classic, crunchy guitar, bang your head/raise your lighter stuff. Even though that isn’t typically a type of music I listen to, I really enjoyed it. A couple of the new songs felt a little disjointed to me – it was as if he were trying to combine parts of different songs into one and I didn’t exactly get how the parts related to one another. I suppose that’s his prog thing and I am just not arty enough to get it.
